Haikube
Donovan & Siegel, 2005
Ebony, hardware
3″ x 3″ x 3″
Haikube is an interactive artwork that marries the Rubix Cube with poetry. Each face has its own haiku poem, font, and typographic design. The structure of the haiku is maintained no matter how the cube is rotated, allowing viewers to deconstruct the original poems as they generate new ones.
With original poetry by Gregory Betts.
25 Rotations
Donovan & Siegel, 2007
150 handprints on New Kitakata gampi
6.5″ x 6.5″ x 6.5″ (each print)
A companion piece to Haikube, 25 Rotations is a set of 150 prints representing each of the six original poems as they decompose through 25 random rotations of the device. It represents only a tiny fraction of the millions of potential poems that this poetry-generation machine is capable of producing.
